12 Reasons Why Being On Crutches DOESN'T Suck

I recently have gotten surgery on my knee, putting me in crutches for at least a month. Pre- surgery, everyone kept saying “Thats going to suck”, “you live on the 4th floor, how are you going to manage?!” … and so on. I hate dwelling on the negative so I decided to come up with a list of reasons why hobbling around on crutches isn't too bad after all.

1.People praise you for doing the simplest tasks. “You put your own socks on? Great job, Hills!”

2. Working on your upper body strength without going to the gym.

3. You can go to bed early on a Friday night and nobody questions it

4. You can literally “kick back and relax” without moving for hours

5. Catching up on books you have been dying to read

6. Doing some major Pinterest’ing

7. You gain a new appreciation for your legs/knees

8. Breakfast in bed (Thanks mom)

9. The pets spend more time cuddling you while everyone else is at work

11. Spending less on gas money because it’s uncomfortable/painful to drive

12. Having the time to update your blog :)

Hunting with Dad

This past weekend I spent a night back in my hometown of Boiestown, N.B. I wanted some practice shooting portraits and my dad was so happy to help. Here's a few pictures of him in his favourite environment - the woods!

Instagram is Life

Hello, my name is Hillary and I am addicted to Instagram. My last post was 34 minutes ago and it has 28 likes already. I’m still not sure if I should of went with Valencia or Nashville for the filter which has caused a small amount of anxiety.
Because of my addiction, I have started drinking morning lattes just to get that perfect ‘Gram post, showing off my love for caffeine and skill as an ex-barista. Then, I upped my own game by ditching my mismatched mug set, replacing them with an all white set for a more minimalistic vibe and a better aesthetic appeal. These changes in my daily routine isn’t the most concerning part. I realized I might have a problem when I rearranged the entire table setting and the delicious dinner my boyfriend had made just to get the perfect Flatlay. There’s no denying it - Instagram has taken over my life.

To others, it is just another form of social media, but to me, it is a mini photo album chalked full of dedication, hard work, and memories I can whip out at anytime. When the photos are placed into a grid creating the perfect colour palate, I know for a fact I did indeed choose the right filter.

Capital City Auto

"Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist"
- Pablo Picasso

My creativity class went on a field trip to our local car cemetery, Capital City Auto. Our objective was to break the unwritten rules of photography. We were encouraged to forget about aperture, ISO, shutter speed (...ect.) and just go NUTS!

Here's my take:

Toronto city slickers

This past weekend I travelled to Toronto with my brother and his girlfriend to attend my cousins wedding. The weekend was filled with lots of shopping, laughter, and of course the occasional glass of wine.

We stayed on the 8th floor of the Marriott seconds away from the Eaton Centre downtown. Our Hotel had a rooftop pool/ lounge area and we could see lots of tall buildings from our room.

When I first got my laurel tattoo on my arm, I didn't know what I wanted to fill it in with, I had multiple ideas and I couldn't decide which one I liked better. I ended up leaving it blank for the longest time and every time I looked down at my arm I was annoyed with the blank space inside the floral frame.

As I was doing some shopping downtown on Queen street, I walked by a tattoo parlour with a sign reading “Walk ins Welcome”, So I walked in….

I’m extremely basic, I’ll admit it. So of course my new tat had to have dainty lines and even more florals...

The reasoning behind the word “now” represents many things. To me, it means to live in the moment, to really enjoy the world around you right now. Even if its sitting in traffic, waiting for a cab to arrive, rushing to work … It’s important to take a look around you and breathe. Take the time to enjoy the little things in life. After all, it could be much, much worse.

"Now" is also a motivator to get shit done. I cant even begin to count the amount of times I’ve said “Ill do it later” or “maybe tomorrow”… My own arm has been so encouraging to me and I’ve been getting SO much done lately. It feels amazing!!

Toronto has been so good to me and I can't wait to visit again. I would love to live in a big city someday. I'm currently counting down the days until I finish University/College and then I can finally make my dream a reality!
